Soundtrack my Friend’s Drink – Hello

For Adam’s Christmas edition of Soundtrack My Friend’s Drink, I created a seasonal cocktail for Peter Ross. Browsing through his posts, I got the idea to come up with a Christmassy Garibaldi variation. Brace yourself for some cacao and eau de vie in this!

I wanted to keep things (relatively) simple for this Christmas Garibaldi. So, I first infused some Italian bitter liqueur with cacao beans. I macerated around four cracked up cacao beans in 150 ml of bitter. Just let the infusion sit until it reaches the desired taste.

Fluffy orange juice

The most important ingredient in a Garibaldi is the orange juice. It has to be fresh and it has to be fluffy. So, I “fluffed” some orange juice with an immersion blender. Furthermore, I added a bit of orange eau de vie and a few dashes orange & mandarin bitters. For the accompanying Christmas song, I went for the “Hello (and it’s Christmas)” by the Munich Indie band Kytes.

Hello:
View in: de en
4,5 cl Cacao Infused Italian Red Bitter Liqueur
0,75 cl Haas Orange Eau de Vie
2 Dashes Bob’s Mandarin & Orange Bitters
6 cl Fluffy Orange Juice
Stir – strain – chilled Double Old-Fashioned without ice;
Garnish:Orange Twist; Song: Kytes – Hello (and it’s Christmas);

My first intention was to name the drink after a Christmas song by Paolo Conte. However, as it turns out, he never recorded one. Nevertheless, the “Hello” screams Italy and (more subtle) Christmas. You get the classic Garibaldi flavours, but they are accompanied by noticeable cacao flavours and a hint of mandarin oils.
